Two PhD Degrees

Getting your PhD degree means that you should know how to do stuff in your niche. It means you're ready. However, there seems to be a trend towards doing more than one PhD degrees.

I too thought I might do a second PhD, but luckily a professor from South Africa intervened. When I told him I'm thinking of a second dissertation he asked me, "Why? Is there something wrong with your first one?"

Hummmm, I am happy if I finish successfully one, at least at the moment ;-)

However, after PhD it comes a Post-Doc, if you want to? Right? At least is what I had heard about.

And anyway, I would imagine if you enjoy research as you enjoy learning you will keep on doing it, because it is not for the papers or the titles itself, it is because it is part of your passion in this earth, or?!?! The challenge is to match it with the “economical” wishes, desires and system of our capitalist world, but if you find that way or the balance for that, it is piece of cake, I would naively say ;-)

One can get dual phds in two different disciplines. It would, however, behoove one to do so in fields that might produce a worthwhile syncretism. An example of an official dual Ph.D. program: http://nes.web.arizona.edu/dual_ANTH_NES_PHD.html
